Bergtrotte Osterfingen, Restaurant 1584

The stately mountain press, the landmark of Osterfingen, attests to a long-standing viticulture tradition. It dates back to the year 1584. Over the centuries, it was expanded to its current size. Until the invention of the wheel yoke press, the grapes were pressed using heavy tree presses. While buildings like this press disappeared in other places, the Osterfingen press survived. After the abolition of the press obligation, it changed from state ownership to private hands.

In 1986, the city of Schaffhausen gifted the people of Osterfingen a press originating from Siblingen, which today is set up in the press building to everyone's delight. At the press festival in 2009, it was put back into operation for the 50th anniversary of the press festival.
